Talespin, The Complete Series

Description

Ah, my childhood..a fine example of a time when Disney had "GOOD" shows on TV.

For those of you who have never heard of this (or, have forgotten after all these years)
allow me to explain what these are, and their significance.

'TaleSpin' was one of the nine shows part of the old Disney Afternoon programming block
(others included Darkwing Duck, Bonkers, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Ducktales and Goof Troop.)
and, is best know for having a few main characters adapted from the 1967 animated film 'The Jungle Book.'

despite having characters such as Baloo, Louie and Shere Khan.
TaleSpin is not, and was never suppose to be a spinoff and/or parody of The Jungle Book.

It's actually more similiar Hayao Miyazaki's film "Porco Rosso."

TaleSpin takes place in some parallel universe populated by anthropomorphic animals (or, Anthros or "Furries")
which a time period that appears to be set in 1938 (Radios are the primary medium, and TV is something unheard of.)

In this universe, Airplanes (mostly Sea Planes) are as common to have as automobiles.
so, hardly any character in TaleSpin doesn't know how to fly a plane.

Baloo in this series is a "Bush Pilot", who works in an 'air cargo freight' business
(in todays terms, that be like him working for UPS, delivering stuff we order on the internet.)
which was purchased from him by Rebecca Cunningham, who also owns his seaplane.

much of the series revolves around him wanting to buy back his plane from her.
but, later in the series, this hasn't been so much of a priority.

Standing in for Mowgli from Jungle Book is Kit Cloudkicker.
a young kid who serves as Baloo's navigator (who Baloo nicknames "Little Britches")

another character adapted from The Jungle Book is Louie (King Louie)
who in this series is Baloo's best friend, and owner of a island night club called 'Louie's Place'

The villains of the series are Don Karnage, captain of a legion of Air Pirates
who range from robbing cargo planes, to trying to invade (and, failing in doing so) the city of Cape Suzette.

The Thembrians (parody of Stalinist Soviet Union) though, mostly Col. Spigot.
whose a perfect example of a Napoleon Complexed villain.

and, at times Shere Khan, the ruthless businessman and CEO of Khan Industries.
who for all intents and purposes, practically owns HALF the world.

The series originall ran from September 7th, 1990, to August 8th 1991.

remarkably enough, the September 11 Attacks of 2001 affected TaleSpin rerun status.
as quite a few episodes were edited..and, SOME were even banned from television.

(Fortunatly, the DVDs show featured ALL of the episodes in their original state.
so, no worries about missing anything.)

Disney material aside, when it comes right down to it.
this is a show that lovers of Anthros, and 1930s period media will enjoy.
